Tech ends regular season against Georgia Tech, Clemson
Beck, Graber and Jacques to be honored on Senior Day

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will conclude the 2011 regular season schedule this weekend with matches against No. 15 Georgia Tech on Friday at 3 p.m., and Sunday in a 1 p.m., contest versus No. 62 Clemson. The matches will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. Tech seniors Will Beck (Potomac, Md.), Pedro Graber (Santiago, Chile) and Sebastien Jacques (Magog, Quebec, Canada) will be honored prior to Sunday’s match.

Free pizza will be given out during the doubles and singles matches on Friday against Georgia Tech and an autograph session will be held after the singles matches. On Sunday, the first 50 fans to the Clemson match will receive free Hokie Sunglasses.

Virginia Tech (12-9, 4-5), No. 37 in this week’s ITA national poll, split two road matches last week defeating No. 34 Wake Forest, 5-2, before dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 67 NC State.

Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia), ranked No. 53 nationally in singles, leads Tech with a 14-6 dual match record at the No. 1 position. Tech’s doubles lineup will include the No. 43 nationally-ranked duo of Will Beck (Sr., Potomac, Md.)/Pedro Graber (r-Sr., Santiago, Chile). Beck has also been solid in singles play compiling a 15-5 dual match record.

Georgia Tech (16-3, 7-2) split two home matches last weekend dropping a, 6-1, match to No. 11 Duke and defeating No. 17 North Carolina, 5-2. The Yellow Jackets will be led in singles by No. 15 Guillermo Gomez and No. 83 Juan Spir and in doubles by No. 15 Kevin King/Spir. The Hokies lost, 4-3, to the Yellow Jackets last year in Atlanta, but won, 5-2, in 2009 in Blacksburg, Va.

Clemson (15-9, 2-7) lost two home contests to North Carolina (3-4) and Duke (0-7). Tech won, 4-3, last season at Clemson and defeated the Tigers, 7-0, the last time the two met in Blacksburg during the 2009 season.

Following this weekend’s action, Tech will travel to Cary, N.C., to participate in the ACC Men’s Tennis Championships, Apr. 21-24.
