Winston-Salem, N.C. – No. 38 Virginia Tech defeated No. 34 Wake Forest Friday to snap a three-match losing streak and earn their sixth win over a ranked opponent this season.

The Hokies are now 12-8 on the season, 4-4 in conference, while Wake Forest is now 10-9, 3-5 in ACC play.

Wake Forest took the first doubles match, as No. 36 Iain Atkinson/David Hopkins defeated No. 66 Pedro Graber/Will Beck, 8-6. The Hokies rebounded in the No. 2 match with Luka Somen/Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci beating Danny Kreyman/Jonathan Wolff, 9-8 (7-2). With the doubles point coming down to the final match, the Hokie pair of Patrick Daciek/Trpimir Kujundzic earned a tightly-contested victory over Tripper Carleton/Adam Lee, 9-7, to give Virginia Tech the first point of the day.

Lucas Oliviera opened singles competition with a win for the Hokies, defeating Hopkins, 6-3, 6-0. No. 113 Carleton gave Wake Forest its first point of the day, beating Graber, 6-3, 7-5. In the No. 3 match, Daciek earned a victory in three sets over Atkinson, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Beck clinched the victory for the Hokies in the fourth spot, beating Kreyman 6-3, 6-7(6-8), 6-4. No. 50 Somen went to three frames with No. 63 Wolff, but came out victorious, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2. Wake Forest’s Lee took the final match of the day over Tocci, 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (0-7), 1-0 (10-7).

The Hokies will now travel to NC State on Sunday, April 10 for a match set to begin at 1 p.m.
