Hokies conclude road schedule at Wake Forest, NC State
Tech to face No. 34 Demon Deacons, No. 67 Wolfpack

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will conclude its away schedule this weekend with matches at No. 34 Wake Forest on Friday at 3:30 p.m., and Sunday in a 1 p.m., contest at No. 67 NC State.

Virginia Tech (11-8, 3-4), No. 38 in this week’s ITA national poll, lost two home matches last week against No. 4 North Carolina, 4-3, then dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 10 Duke.

Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia), ranked No. 50 nationally in singles, leads Tech with a 13-5 dual match record at the No. 1 position. Tech’s doubles lineup will include the No. 66 nationally-ranked duo of Will Beck (Sr., Potomac, Md.)/Pedro Graber (r-Sr., Santiago, Chile).

Wake Forest (10-8, 3-4) split two home matches last weekend dropping a 5-2 decision at No. 28 Miami, before defeating No. 47 Florida State, 4-3. The Demon Deacons picked up a 4-3 win at home on Wednesday over Louisville. Wake Forest will be led in singles by No. 63 Jonathan Wolff and No. 113 Tripper Carleton and in doubles by No. 36 Ian Atkinson/David Hopkins. The Hokies defeated the Deacs, 5-2, last year in Blacksburg, Va.

NC State (8-11, 0-7) has dropped seven straight matches including losses last week at home to the Seminoles (6-1) and Hurricanes (5-2). Tech edged the Wolfpack, 4-3, last season at home.

Following this weekend’s action, Tech will conclude the 2011 regular season with home matches against No. 18 Georgia Tech (Fri., 3 p.m.) and No. 58 Clemson (Sun., 1 p.m.). Tech seniors Will Beck, Pedro Graber and Sebastien Jacques will be honored prior to the Clemson contest.
