BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will look to get back on the winning track this weekend as the Hokies travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to face No. 30 Minnesota on Friday at 6 p.m., and No. 35 Boise State in a Saturday contest at 3 p.m. The matches will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
Virginia Tech (2-2), ranked No. 28 in this week’s ITA national poll, dropped two tight matches last week in Durham, N.C. at the ITA Kick-off Weekend regional. The Hokies lost their first match, 4-3, to No. 21 Pepperdine and lost the consolation contest, 4-2, versus No. 24 Michigan.
Minnesota (2-1) split two matches last weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., in the ITA Kick-off Weekend event dropping a 4-0 decision at No. 6 UCLA, before upsetting No. 28 Fresno State, 4-2.
Boise State (2-2) split two contests at the ITA Kick-off Weekend event in Lexington, Ky. The Broncos lost, 4-1, at No. 12 Kentucky and then upset No. 30 Wisconsin, 4-0. A few members of both teams faced each other at the D.C. Invite in Washington, D.C., last September in conjunction with the Virginia Tech-Boise State football game. Tech won all eight singles matches and took three of the four doubles matches in the two-day event.
