TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lucas Oliveira and Jonathan Pine won their semifinal singles matches Saturday evening to advance into their respective flight finals at the Crimson Tide Invitational. The tournament includes players from 25 schools and is hosted by the University of Alabama. Matches are being played at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium and the Alabama Recreation Courts.
Oliveira (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Bryant Salcedo (Vanderbilt), 6-2, 6-3, in the Gene Stallings Flight semifinal and will play Tyler Davis (Notre Dame) in the Sunday 9 a.m. final. Pine (Jr., Vienna, Va.) pulled out a come-from-behind, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, win over Travis Neilson (Indiana) and faces Matt Dooley (Notre Dame) in the Steadman Shealy Flight final also scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m.
Earlier in the day, Oliveira paired with Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia) to edge Baker/Bazarnik (Vanderbilt), 9-8, before defeating Alden/Hogh (Illinois), 8-4. The Tech duo will play Tom Puetz/David Zimmerman (UAB) Sunday morning in the Maroon Flight semifinal with the final to follow.
