CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech’s doubles team of Adam Lawton/Jonathan Pine won the Sunday Red doubles final on the final day of the UVa Fall Invitational. The Snyder Tennis Center was the primary site of the Friday-Sunday competition, with additional matches being played at The Dell and the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Due to the weather, most of Saturday’s matches were moved indoors to Boar’s Head.
Joining the host Cavaliers in this year’s field were players from Binghamton, California, Cornell, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, George Washington, James Madison, Longwood, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Old Dominion, Richmond, VCU, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, William & Mary, and Winthrop.
Lawton (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.)/J. Pine (Jr., Vienna, Va.) won the Red Flight finals, 8-6, over Andersson/Hoogland (W&M). The Hokies picked up several wins in flight consolation rounds on Sunday. Tech will return to the court next week when they travel to Durham, N.C. to participate in the NIke Fab 4 tournament.
