BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis players Luka Somen, Sebastien Jacques and Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci each are included in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national singles preseason rankings.
Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia), a 2010 All-ACC selection and the 2009 ACC Freshman of the Year, is ranked No. 52 nationally. He ended the 2009-10 season ranked No. 74 in the nation and No. 7 in the Atlantic Region. Somen posted a 25-10 singles record last season including a 7-4 mark in the ACC and 15-6 in dual matches playing mostly at the No. 2 position.
Jacques (Sr., Magog, Quebec, Canada), received a No. 94 national ranking and was ranked No. 12 in Atlantic Region at the end of last season. He posted a 16-13 singles record and 11-10 in dual matches. Jacques also recorded 18 doubles victories.
Tocci (Jr., Reggio Emilia, Italy) is ranked No. 109 after finishing last season with a No. 13 Atlantic Region ranking. He led team with 28 singles victories playing in the middle of the lineup. Last year, he teamed with Somen to win 25 doubles matches, including 11-0 in ACC contests.
The Hokies, ranked No. 24 in the final 2009-10 ITA national poll, finished with a 16-8 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. Several members of the men’s team are participating this weekend in the UVa Fall Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
