Men's tennis team named ITA All-Academic
Five Hokies receive scholar-athlete honor

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team has been selected as one of 52 recipients of the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Additionally, the Hokies had five players named 2010 ITA Scholar-Athletes. Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci, Pedro Graber, Leonardo Lapentti, Lucas Oliveira and Luka Somen were selected for the honor.

The team award marks the fifth time the men's program has received the honor, after previously receiving the award in 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008. Tech led ACC schools with five players selected as scholar-athletes. Graber (r-Sr., Santiago, Chile) received the honor for the third time in his career, while Tocci (Jr., Reggio Emilia, Italy) is a two-time winner of the honor. Lapentti (So., Guayaquil, Ecuador), Oliveira (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia) are first-time recipients.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2009 and spring 2010).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
