GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team were selected to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Tennis Team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Sebastien Jacques (Jr., Magog, Quebec, Canada), Luka Somen (So., Karlovac, Croatia) and Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci (So., Reggio Emilia, Italy) were all named to the elite academic squad. Jacques and Somen were named to the team for the second consecutive year.
On the court, Jacques posted 16 singles victories and was ranked No. 12 in the Atlantic Region while Somen posted 25 singles victories and earned a No. 74 national ranking. Tocci led the team with 28 singles wins and teamed with Somen to post a 27-9 doubles record including 11-0 in ACC matches.
Duke lead all ACC schools with four All-Academic team selections. Georgia Tech, Virginia and Virginia Tech each placed three student-athletes on the squad.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. This year’s team included seven repeat honorees from 2007 and one three-time honoree in Duke’s Kiril Dimitrov.
