ACC Tennis Championship brackets set
Tech men and women open action on Thursday, April 22

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the brackets for the 2010 ACC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships held at Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C., on April 22-25. Virginia Tech will be competing in its sixth ACC Tournament.

Tech’s men’s team, ranked No. 20 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the fifth seed in the 12-team bracket. The Hokies are paired up to play Boston College, the 12th seed in the bracket, on Thursday, April 22, at noon.

The Hokies completed the regular season with a 14-6 overall and 7-4 ACC record. The Eagles have a 9-15 dual record and were 0-11 in conference matches.

Tech took a 7-0 decision in Weymouth, Mass., over Boston College on Feb. 6. In that contest, the Hokies swept three matches for the doubles point, then took all of the six singles contests.

The winner of Thursday's match moves on to face the No. 4 seed in the championships, 24th-ranked Georgia Tech on Friday, April 23, at noon. The Yellow Jackets edged Tech, 4-3, in Atlanta, Ga., last Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, April 24, there will be two semi-final matches. The first semi-final match is slated for 10 a.m., while the second semi-final match will be played at 1 p.m. The 11 a.m. title match will conclude the conference championship on Sunday, April 25.

The Hokies are the tenth seed in the women’s bracket and are set to open the conference championship on Thursday, April 22, at noon against No. 7 seed Georgia Tech, ranked No. 20 by the ITA.

Tech is 10-12 overall and 2-9 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech is 14-9 overall and 5-9 in conference action. The Hokies dropped a 7-0 decision to the Yellow Jackets last Sunday at home.

Next up for the winner of Thursday's match is a noon contest versus the No. 2 seed, 11th-ranked Miami, on Friday, April 23, at noon.

The women’s semi-final matches will be played on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The championships conclude with the 11 a.m. title match on Sunday, April 25.
