NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team was eliminated on Saturday at the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships as the Hokies five singles players and one doubles team suffered losses. The event was hosted by Old Dominion University at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
Will Beck (Jr., Potomac, Md.) saw his great run in the event come to an end in a, 6-2, 6-2, loss against No. 8 seed and 84th-ranked Drew Courtney (Virginia). Corrado Degli Incerti Tocci (So., Reggio Emilia, Italy), upset teammate and No. 7 seed Patrick Daciek (So., Severna Park, Md.), 6-4, 7-5, before dropping his quarterfinal match, 7-6 (5), 6-3, to No. 4 seed and 50th-ranked Houston Barrick (Virginia).
In other results, Yoann Re (Sr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada), seeded No. 3 and ranked 35th in the nation, was upset, 6-4, 6-4, by No. 9 seed and 88th-ranked Thibaut Charron (Virginia Commonwealth) and Luka Somen (So., Karlovac, Croatia), seeded No. 14 and ranked 125th nationally, was eliminated in a tough, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, loss to No. 16 seed Jamere Jenkins (Penn State) Saturday at 10 a.m.
In doubles, Somen/Tocci, the No. 8 seeds, were eliminated by the No. 4 seeds Keziel Juneau/Sebastien Vidal (William & Mary), 8-5 in the quarterfinals.
The Hokies return to action Nov. 6-8 when they host the Virginia Tech Challenge.
