TULSA, Okla. -- Virginia Tech’s Yoann Re was eliminated Thursday evening in the opening round of the main draw in the D’Novo All-American Men’s Tennis Championships. The Tech senior dropped a 6-3, 6-3, decision to qualifer Jeff Dadamo (Texas A&M) in a match which started two hours late due to rain and was played indoors at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
After each player recorded an early break in the opening set, Re (Verdun, Quebec Canada), ranked 35th nationally, was broken for a second time in the sixth game and Dadamo made it stand up to win the set, 6-3. Re held serve to open the second set, but failed to convert on three break point in the second game. He eventually broke in the fourth game to lead, 3-1, and seemed to have momentum on his side. However, Dadamo took command of the match from that point winning the next five games for the victory.
The Hokies return to action, Oct. 22-26, when several members of the team will travel to Norfolk, Va. to participate in the ITA Atlantic Regional.
