Tocci wins UNCW Invitational final
Tech sophomore battles back for three-set victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Virginia Tech’s Corrado Degli Incerti Tocci came from behind to capture the Flight A men’s title at UNCW RBC Wealth Management Invitational. The flighted event included players from Campbell, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Georgia State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and UNC Wilmington. The tournament was held at the Country Club of Landfall’s Drysdale Tennis Center.

Tocci (So., Reggio Emilia, Italy), seeded third, dropped the opening set, 4-6, in the final against Davy Sum (Campbell) before taking the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2. He lost only one set in four matches on the way to the title.

In the only other action involving Hokies on Sunday, Johnathan Pine (So., Vienna, Va.)/Zachary Pine (So., Vienna, Va.) lost their Flight B doubles final, 8-6, to the top seeded team of Alex Funkhouser/Dorian Sovic (Coastal Carolina).

The Hokies return to action next weekend when several members of the team will travel to Athens, Ga. to participate in the Southern Intercollegiate tournament.
