Somen named VaSID Rookie of the Year
Re, Delgado de Robles named to all-state second team

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Three members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team, including Rookie of the Year Luka Somen, have been named to the VaSID University Division All-State Men’s Tennis team. Yoann Re and Nicolas Delgado de Robles were named to the second-team. The team is selected by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Croatia), the ACC Freshman of the Year, led Tech with 24 singles victories playing primarily at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. He compiled a 5-4 record in ACC dual matches was an outstanding 11-4 in three-set contests.

Yoann Re (Jr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada), an All-ACC selection, concluded the year ranked 60th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings and 13th in the Mideast Region. Re was also a participant in the NCAA Singles Championships and finished with a 20-12 singles record, including a 4-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference dual matches. Along the way, Re picked up victories over No. 15 Dominic Inglot (Virginia), No. 29 Justin Kronauge (Ohio State), No. 26 Austen Childs (Louisville) and No. 93 Slah Mbarek (TCU).

Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Sr., Madrid, Spain), ranked No. 19 in the Mideast Region, was a second team selection after posting 16 singles wins, including a 5-4 ACC record playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Delgado de Robles also posted 16 doubles victories during the year.

All three players had key roles in leading Tech to a 15-8 overall record and a third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships. The Hokies ended the year with a No. 27 national ranking.
