CARY, N.C. – Virginia Tech dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Wake Forest Friday afternoon and was eliminated from the 2009 ACC Championship being played at Cary Tennis Park. Wake Forest, ranked 20^th nationally, improved to 19-8 with the win while the Hokies fell to 14-7.

Tech, ranked No. 22 nationally, captured the doubles point, but dropped four of the six singles contests in the loss. The Demon Deacons quickly erased the 1-0 Tech advantage by taking the top two singles matches. No. 92 Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Sr., Madrid, Spain) dropped his No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-0, against 12^th-ranked Cory Parr and Pedro Graber (Jr., Santiago, Chile) fell, 6-2, 6-2, at No.2 versus Steve Forman.

Wake increased the lead to 3-1 as Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada) lost the No. 3 contest, 6-2, 6-1, to David Hopkins. The Hokies evened the match as Patrick Daciek (Fr., Severna Park, Md.) defeated Jason Morgenstern, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 6 and Brandon Corace (Sr., Naples, Fla.) beat Iain Atkinson, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the No. 5 event.

With the match hanging in the balance, ACC Freshman of the Year Luka Somen (Karlovac, Croatia) dropped the No. 3 match to Jonathan Wolf, 6-4, 7-5.

Wake Forest won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-1, as Foreman/Parr, ranked No. 11 nationally, defeated Daciek/Delgado de Robles, but the Hokies pulled even with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 by Jacques/Somen over Hopkins/Wolf. Tech clinched the point when Corace/Graber claimed an 8-4 win at No. 2 against Atkinson/Carlos Salmon.

The Hokies will now await the announcement of the NCAA Championships field on Tuesday, April 28 at 3 p.m. on ESPNEWS.
