BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team sent the three senior members of the squad out on a good note Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over No. 25 Duke at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech improved to 12-5 on the year and 5-3 in the ACC while the Blue Devils fell to 12-7 and 5-4 in the conference.

The Hokies, ranked No. 26 nationally, took two of the three doubles matches for the first point and split the six single matches for the victory.

In singles, Tech built a 3-0 lead with two straight set wins as Patrick Daciek (Fr., Severna Park, Md.) made quick work of Aaron Carpenter, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 and Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada) was equally efficient in his 6-1, 6-3, No. 4 win over Alain Michel.

Duke got back in the match when Pedro Graber (Jr., Santiago, BChile) lost 6-2, 7-5, in his No. 2 match against Dylan Arnould and closed to within a point as Brandon Corace (Sr., Naples, Fla.) fell, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 5 versus Luke Marchese. The Hokies clinched the victory when Luka Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Croatia) took a 6-4, 7-6, win at No. 3 over Jared Pinsky. Senior Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Madrid, Spain) ended senior day with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7), win against 55th-ranked Reid Carlton.

Tech took an early lead in the doubles competition as Corace/Graber won 8-3 at No. 2 over Arnould/David Holland but Duke tied things up when Daciek/Delgado de Robles lost 8-5 at No. 1 against Dimitrov/Michel. The Hokies clinched the point with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 by Jacques/Somen over Carpenter/Pinsky.

Tech concludes the regular season next week with road matches at NC State (Apr. 10) and at Wake Forest (Apr. 11).
