BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wraps up the home portion of the 2008-09 regular season this weekend. The Hokies will play No. 39 North Carolina on Friday at 3 p.m., then face 25th-ranked Duke Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest. Tech seniors Brandon Corace, Nicolas Delgado de Robles and Preston Lemon will be honored prior to Sunday’s match against the Blue Devils.
Tech (11-4, 4-2), ranked No. 26 nationally, dropped its only ACC contest last week at No. 31 Miami (5-0). The March 27 contest at No. 16 Florida State was rained out and will not be rescheduled. The Hokies are currently in sixth place in the ACC and have a 7-0 home record this season at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
North Carolina (13-6, 2-4) rolled to easy home wins last week over Maryland (7-0) and Boston College (7-0) before dropping a 5-2 decision against Duke on Tuesday.
Duke (12-5, 5-2) also picked up home wins last week also rolling to victories against Boston College (7-0) and Maryland (5-2) before defeating the Tar Heels.
Friday’s match against UNC is Kid’s Day Out with the first 100 fans receiving a HokieBird BobbleHead Doll and the HokieBird will be in attendance at the match. The Sunday contest versus the Blue Devils is Faculty & Staff day where all fans can register to win a free VT polo, VT fleece as well as gift certificates to local area restaurants. Also, the first 100 fans on Sunday will receive a free VT thermal mug.
