MIAMI, Fla. - The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team dropped its second ACC match of the season to the University of Miami on Sunday, 5-0. Play was suspended due to rain. Tech falls to 11-4 in the regular season and 4-2 in conference play. The Hurricanes, who are ranked No. 36 nationally, move to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in conference matches.
Tech, ranked No. 21 nationally, dropped the doubles point and the four singles contests that were played.
In singles action, Tech’s Pedro Graber (Jr., Santiago, Chile) dropped match No. 2 to David Rosenfeld of Miami, 6-2, 6-0. The Hurricanes took match No. 5, after Keith Crowley disposed of Tech’s Brandon Corace (Sr., Naples, Fla.), 6-4 and 6-1. Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada) fell to No.90-ranked Carl Sundberg of Miami in the fourth sinlges match, 6-4 and 6-1, to secure the win for Miami.
In match No. 6, Tech freshman Patrick Daciek (Severna Park, Md.) dropped a hard fought battle to Ignacio Taboada, 6-3, 3-6 and10-6. Matches one and three went unfinished due to inclement weather.
In doubles action the Hokies dropped two of three matches to the Hurricanes. The Tech team of Corace/Graber posted a 9-7 win over Miami’s Simon/Blocker for the only doubles win. In match No.1, the Hurricanes team of Vallverdu/Rosenfeld dropped Jacques/Re 8-2, while Daciek/Delgado de Robles fell to Crowley and Sundberg, 8-6.
The Hokies will host their final two home matches of the season against North Carolina on April 3 and Duke on April 5. Both contests will be held at the Burrows-BurlesonTennisCenter on the Virginia Tech campus, while the three Tech seniors will be honored prior to the Duke match.
