Hokies claim victory over Yellow Jackets
Tech claims third win in conference play
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 21 Virginia Tech men’s tennis squad added another impressive ACC victory to its 2009 resume, as the Hokies defeated No. 62 Georgia Tech 4-3 at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday. The Hokies are now 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.

Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Sr., Madrid, Spain), Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada) and Brandon Corace (Sr., Naples, Fla.) all earned crucial victories en route to the win.

In the No. 2 singles match, Delgado de Robles defeated Miguel Mugurunza of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-4. Jacques beat the Yellow Jackets’ Ryan Smith, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match, while, in the No. 6 singles contest, Corace trounced Dusan Miljevic, 6-2, 6-2 to secure a victory for Tech.

Yoann Re (Sr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) ranked No. 59 in the nation, fell to Guillermo Gomez, who is ranked twelfth, 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 1 singles match. Meanwhile Tech junior Pedro Graber (Santiago, Chile) and Luke Somen (Karlovec, Croatia) dropped matches in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches, respectively. Graber lost 7-5, 6-2, and Somen fell 6-3, 6-4.

The Hokies won two of the three doubles matches to secure the critical doubles point to start the match out strongly. At the No. 3 doubles, Corace/Graber teamed up to defeat the Yellow Jackets’ Gomez/Smith, 8-3. Jacques/Re were upended by Gomez/Smith of the Yellow Jackets, 8-2, but Patrick Daciek (Fr., Severna Park, Md.), paired up with Delgado de Robles and sealed the doubles point with an 8-4 victory over King/Kenny.

Tech continues its ACC slate on Sunday, matching up with Clemson at the Burrows-BurlesonTennisCenter. Opening serve is scheduled for noon. Results will be available on hokiesports.com, following the match.
