BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will face the top-ranked team in the nation for the second time this season when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. for a 6 p.m. match on Friday against Virginia. The road trip continues on Sunday with a noon contest at No. 73 Maryland.

Virginia Tech (6-1, 1-0), ranked No. 31 in this week’s ITA national poll, won its’ ACC opener last Friday, 7-0, over Boston College and defeated Brown the following day by the same score. Earlier this season, the Hokies suffered a 5-2 loss at then No. 1 Ohio State in the second round of the ITA National Indoor.

Tech is led by 86th-ranked Yoann Re (Jr., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) with a 7-0 record thus far in dual matches and 92nd-ranked Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Sr., Madrid, Spain) who has 78 career singles victories.

Virginia (14-0, 2-0) won the ITA National Indoor tournament earlier this month with wins over No. 4 UCLA, No. 8 Tennessee and No. 3 Georgia. The Cavaliers are led by sixth-ranked Dominic Inglot who is one of five nationally-ranked players on the roster. Virginia also has the second-ranked doubles team in the nation in Houston Barrick/Sanam Singh. The Tech duo of Sebastien Jacques (So., Magog, Quebec, Canada)/Re dropped a tough 9-8 (3) decision to the Cavalier pair in the fall in the championship match of the UVa Invitational.

Maryland (5-3, 0-1) has won its’ last two matches over Villanova (7-0) and George Washington (6-1). The Terps dropped their only ACC contest, 7-0, at Virginia. Tech won last year, 6-1, at home and hold a 3-1 edge in the series in ACC matches.

Following this weekend’s contests, the Hokies return home for a Mar. 6, match against No. 33 Louisville at 5 p.m.
