BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team opens the dual match season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kick-off Weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The Hokies will play No. 41 New Mexico at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ohio State University Varsity Center.
Virginia Tech (0-0), ranked No. 30 in this week’s ITA national poll, will see its’ first dual-match action of the season. The Hokies are led by Pedro Graber (Jr., Santiago, Chile), ranked No. 101 in the national preseason singles poll and by the 20th-ranked doubles duo of Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Sr., Madrid, Spain) and Luka Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Croatia).
New Mexico (2-0), ranked No. 41, opened the season with a 4-3 win over No. 44 Indiana and a 4-2 victory against No. 75 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Lobos are led by 87th-ranked Graeme Kassautzki.
The other first round match will feature No. 64 Stetson taking on No. 1 Ohio State at 11 a.m. The winners will advance to Sunday’s second round match at 12:30 p.m. with the loser’s participating in the consolation match at 9 a.m.
The event features 60 teams playing in 15 regionals across the nation who will battle for the right to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago. The host team, Illinois, awaits the 15 winners, in the finals which will take place Feb. 13-16.
