TULSA, Okla. -- Virginia Tech’s Nicolas Delgado de Robles dropped a tight, three-setter in his qualifying round match Tuesday afternoon and was eliminated at the D’Novo All-American Men’s Tennis Championships. The tournament is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) first national event of the 2008-09 tennis season.

Delgado de Robles (Sr. Madrid, Spain), ranked No. 75 nationally, lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, to No. 93 Kriegler Brink (TCU) in Tuesday’s second round match.

Past men’s All-American participants include current professional stars such as recent U.S. Open quarterfinalist James Blake (in 1998 as a sophomore at Harvard) and Bob and Mike Bryan (in 1997 as sophomores at Stanford), the world’s top-ranked doubles team.

The other national title opportunities this season are the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.

The Hokies return to action Oct. 16-21 when several members of the team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ITA Mideast Regional
