Tamburini, Acuna honored by state's sports information directors
Hokies place two student-athletes on All-State teams for second consecutive season

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary’s Antonio Bustamante and Chris Norris were named the VaSID State Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Old Dominion’s Brandon Perdue was the State Rookie of the Year headlining the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State men’s soccer team that was announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
Tech placed two players on All-State teams in 2017. Marcelo Acuna made the First Team for the second consecutive season, while defender Elias Tamburini was selected for the first time in his career, earning Second Team recognition.
Tamburini, a senior from Helsinki, Finland started all 20 games for the Hokies, playing every minute. He recorded five assists, including providing the cross for Gaetan Roux’s game-winner in the First Round of the ACC Tournament against NC State.
He was a part of the Hokies’ back line that had six shutouts.
Acuna scored 12 goals on the season to lead the Hokies, while scoring five game-winners. He has been honored on the First Team’s of the ACC, United Soccer Coaches East Region and VaSID for the second consecutive season.
