Men's soccer well represented on United Soccer Coaches All-East Region teams

BLACKSBURG – Seniors Marcelo Acuna and Ben Lundgaard have each been selected to United Soccer Coaches All-East Region teams. Acuna earned Second Team recognition, while Lundgaard was placed on the Third Team.

Both student-athletes have already been recognized by the ACC as First Team All-Conference performers, the first time that Virginia Tech has placed two players on the team.

Acuna, from San Jose, Costa Rica scored 12 goals in 2017, including five game-winners. Acuna scored twice in three matches this season, all wins for the Hokies, including against Binghamton, then-No. 1 Notre Dame and Pitt.

Lundgaard, had 10 wins in goal and six shutouts, which took his career tally to 23, the second best mark in program history. Lundgaard and the Hokies shutout then-No. 14 Creighton, Longwood, Boston College, Pitt, NC State in the ACC Tournament and Air Force in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. On the season, Lundgaard had 108 saves, the most in the ACC.
