WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to top-ranked and top-seeded Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament’s second round Sunday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons (16-1-1) found the net in just the third minute through Jon Bakero’s headed goal, with assists credited to Brandon Servania and Brad Dunwell.

Wake doubled the advantage two minutes later when Ema Twumasi wove his way into the box, played a one-two pass with Servania and slotted home the finish.

At the break, Wake led 2-0 and outshot the Hokies 10-3.

In the second half, Tech looked a stronger side, applying more pressure and creating dangerous opportunities. Marcelo Acuna held up play well all afternoon leading to chances. Acuna, Gino Rossi, Collin Verfurth, Gaetan Roux and Kristo Strickler all directed shots toward the Wake goal but were unable to find the back of the net.

The best chance of the half came when Forrest White swung in a corner kick from the far side that Verfurth rose to meet. His redirected header was saved off the line by Wake keeper Andreu Cases Mundet.

In goal for the Hokies, Ben Lundgaard came up with six saves on the afternoon.

What’s Next: The Hokies (9-9) will be watching intently on Monday, Nov. 13 when the 48–team bracket for the 2017 NCAA Tournament is announced.

Tech boasts a fine resume, with a top-10 schedule, top-25 RPI and marquee wins over then No. 14 Creighton on the opening day of the season and defeating then No. 1 Notre Dame 2-1 at Thompson Field on Sep. 22.

Last season, the Hokies received a bid and made a run all the way to the Elite Eight.
