The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the William & Mary Tribe Wednesday night in Williamsburg, Virginia. The loss brings the Hokies’ record to 7-7 on the season heading into the final two games of the regular season.
The Tribe (8-4-3) opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Ryder Bell got onto a loose ball in the box and slotted home the finish.
William & Mary had 10 attempts in the first half, forcing three saves out of Ben Lundgaard.
In the second period, the Hokies opened up the aggressors, putting men into the box and finding a goal just three minutes in. Marcelo Acuna picked up a pass from Elias Tamburini in a dangerous position and fired his ninth goal of the season into the net.
The Tribe would strike back in less than 30 seconds to re-establish the lead and never looked back adding an insurance goal in the 77th minute and a late fourth goal with just seconds remaining on the clock.
Tech managed 10 shots, with four on target and earned two corner kicks. Lundgaard finished the match with eight saves for the fourth time in 2017.
Up Next: The Hokies return to Thompson Field on Sunday, Oct. 22 for the final time in the 2017 regular season for a 2:30 kickoff against the fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. The game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
Tech will be honoring 10 seniors and two student trainers for their contributions to the program prior to the match.
