United Soccer Coaches has announced the Team Academic Award winners at the college level to recognize exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 195 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients. Both the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s programs are recognized this year.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.

This marks the seventh time since 2003 that the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team has been so recognized and the second consecutive season for the recognition. The Tech men’s team had a cumulative GPA of 3.02.

This marks the fifth time since 2011 that the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team has received the recognition and the first time since 2014. The Tech women had a cumulative GPA of 3.34.

Virginia Tech is one of six Atlantic Coast Conference schools to have both its men’s and women’s programs recognized.
