Strickler on the score sheet again, Lundgaard earns shutout

The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team defeated Boston College 1-0 on Friday night. The win was Tech’s fourth consecutively, bringing their record to (6-4, 2-2 ACC).

The Hokies earned their first victory over the Eagles (3-7, 0-4) since 2013 when the teams competed in the Big East conference.

After a scoreless first period, the Hokies struck quickly at the beginning of the second half.

Kristo Strickler received a pass from Marcelo Acuna on the left wing and cut inside onto his right foot before curling home his second goal of the season, which stood as the game-winner. The freshman, has now scored a point in three of four matches, during the Hokies’ winning streak.

Acuna continued his good form tallying his first assist of the season. Earlier this week, Acuna was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Simon Enstrom (5) and Beto Luna (4) each threatened the Hokies’ goal throughout the match, but Tech’s defensive unit cleared the danger each time despite allowing 15 shots and 10 corner kicks.

Ben Lundgaard continued his excellent play in goal, making six saves and earning the 20^th shutout of his career. The Greenville, Delaware native needs four more clean sheets to tie the program record set by Chase Harrison.

The Hokies will travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Tech has not met South Carolina on the soccer field since 2000.
