Hokies conclude home stand against Longwood

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team is set to take on the Longwood Lancers at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field. The match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (4-4)
Tech comes into the game after back-to-back wins last week. On Tuesday, Tech defeated Davidson 2-1. Marcelo Acuna was on the score sheet in the first half and Kristo Strickler found the back of the net with his first career goal, the game winner in the 81st minute.

On Friday, the Hokies upended No. 1 Notre Dame behind spirited performances from Ben Lundgaard and Acuna. Lundgaard, who saw a total of 23 Irish shots come his direction, made a career-high 10 saves. Acuna, stole the show again, scoring twice pushing Tech to victory.

Acuna earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring three times, taking his tally to six on the season.

The Lancers (0-6-1)
Longwood enters on a six-game losing streak after opening the season with a draw against VMI. The Lancers have already competed against two ACC teams, losing to Pitt 2-0 and NC State 2-1. Connor Rea, Marten Pajunurm and Sammy Dupuy each have one goal on the season.

The series
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series against Longwood 5-4-2, including a 5-3 mark at home. In last season’s matchup, the Hokies won 1-0, with Alessandro Mion scoring the lone goal. Lundagaard kept the shutout, making two saves.

The Hokies hit the road for an ACC contest against the Boston College Eagles on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.
