Tech tops Buccaneers in first exhibition of 2017
Acuna's second half goal propels Hokies

The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team defeated ETSU 1-0 on Tuesday night. It was Tech’s first exhibition of the 2017 season, following one week of preseason training.
The Hokies were on the front foot in the first half, outshooting ETSU 14-5 and earning five corner kicks, but Tech was unable to find the back of the net. In the second half, Tech stayed in the ascendency and took the lead in the 53rd minute on Marcelo Acuna’s goal assisted by Collin Verfurth. Acuna fired ina shot from the top of the box that found the top left corner of the net.
Ben Lundgaard played the entire 90 minutes in goal for the Hokies, making eight saves to earn the shutout.

Tech’s second and final exhibition of 2017 will be played against the Clemson Tigers at Thompson Field on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
