Hokies end their season against No. 2 Wake Forest in the Elite Eight

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (13-5-4) fell 0-2 to Wake Forest (18-2-3) on Saturday night in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Deacons were successful in the last ten minutes, sending them to Houston.

The first forty-five in Winston Salem was a battle of the midfielders as the ball traveled back and forth. The Hokies saw two dangerous chances but were not able to finish. Ben Lundgaard put up five saves to keep the Deacons off the board as they applied pressure towards the end of the half.

Virginia Tech found themselves on defense more often as the second half kicked off. Wake Forest saw two great opportunities early but were unable to find the back of the net. The Deacons were able to get on the board first with ten minutes left in regulation. Ema Twumasi was able to get past Lundgaard with a high left shot. Twumasi was not finished and was able to score again two minutes later off a deflection to put the Deacons up 2-0.

The Hokies end their season in the Elite Eight with an overall record of 13-5-4.
