BLACKSBURG- The No. 15 Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (9-3-2) will host No. 14 Charlotte 49ers (8-2) on Tuesday night. The midweek clash is set for 6 p.m. on Thompson Field. The match will air on the ACC Digital Network Extra.
The Hokies return home after traveling to Syracuse last Friday. Tech could not produce on offense and came up short 0-1 against the Orange. Ben Lundgaard made six saves on the night continuing his strong junior campaign.
This match will conclude Virginia Tech’s non-conference schedule for the regular season. The Hokies are 7-0-1 non-conference and 5-1-1 at home.
Scouting Charlotte
The 49ers are coming off a huge win at No. 3 Clemson last Tuesday. That marked the third ranked team they have met and second that they have defeated. The team is 8-2 overall and 5-1 non-conference. Charlotte began their season with four consecutive shutouts and have only allowed five goals all season. They are currently eighth in the country for shutout percentage and fifth for goals against average. The 49ers have eight players with goals, Harrison Steadman with the most at five.
In last week’s NCAA RPI, Charlotte, hailing from Conference USA, was at No. 10.
The Last Meeting
The two teams have meet only eight times before. Tech sits at 1-6-1 all-time against Charlotte. The sole win comes from their first meeting in 1986. Last year, Tech traveled to Charlotte and were shut out 0-5. Before that, the teams met last in 2000 in Charlotte for a tie.
