BLACKSBURG- The No. 18 Virginia Tech men’s soccer will prepare for a two-game homestead this week as they host VMI on Tuesday and Duke on Friday. Both matches are set to kick off at 6 p.m. on Thompson Field.
Tech returns home from in-state rival Virginia with a tie on the record. The Hokies and Hoos went into double overtime without a goal to be had. Ben Lundgaard made seven saves on the night to keep Tech afloat. This match marked the first time the Hokies have not scored a goal this season. VT advances to 7-2-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in the ACC.
Tuesday will be Corps of Cadets night at Thompson Field. During halftime watch them do a fun and challenging relay race on the field. On Friday, the men’s soccer team will be hosting Leukemia Awareness Night. Get to the game early for your orange wristband supporting Leukemia.
Scouting VMI
The Keydets have yet to win a match this season going 0-8 and 0-3 in the Southern Conference. Scoring only four goals in 2016, VMI looks to get some offensive production against the Hokies. This Tuesday, Tech will be their last non-conference game of the season. The Hokies and Keydets are 29-2-1 all-time. Tech has not dropped a game to VMI since 1985.
Scouting Duke
The Blue Devils are currently fourth in the ACC Costal Division behind Tech at third. Duke advanced to 4-3-2 and 1-2-1 in the ACC after a win over NC State Friday. Their conference losses come from Boston College and Wake Forest, two ranked teams. They will face Davidson at home on Tuesday before traveling to Blacksburg. Duke holds the all-time series at 11-2-4. The Hokies have not won since 2004 and last tied in 2013.
