BLACKSBURG- The No. 23 Virginia Tech men’s soccer team hosts NC State Friday night on Thompson Field. The ACC home opener is set for 6 p.m.
The Hokies come into the match with momentum after defeating Longwood on Tuesday night at home. Tech scored in the 79th minute for the 1-0 midweek victory. Senior Alessandro Mion had his first goal of the season off an assist from Rory Slevin.
Virginia Tech is enjoying one of its best starts since 2006 advancing to 5-1-0 in 2016. Marcelo Acuna leads the team in points, goals and shots and was the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for week one.
Friday night will also be kid’s night at Thompson Field. There will be an inflatable bounce house and game setup an hour before kickoff. Admission is free.
Scouting NC State
The Wolfpack are now 1-4-0 on the 2016 season after a win at JMU and loses to Radford, North Florida, Syracuse and Elon. NC State, having trouble producing on offense, has only scored five goals while they have conceded 10. Their player to watch is Ade Taiwo. Taiwo leads the team in goals, points and shots.
Last Meeting
The Hokies and the Wolfpack last met in 2014 in Raleigh, N.C. Tech was victorious, winning 3-2. All-time Virginia Tech is 7-1-14 against NC State. The first time the teams met was in 1978.
