BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech will play host to the Eagles of Boston College on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field in an ESPN3 televised match.
Tech is coming off a 4-1 win over nonconference opponent Delaware on Tuesday night. The Hokies were very efficient in front of net as they only had six shots on goal during the game. Tech is now unbeaten in its last three games, going 2-0-1 during that stretch.
Alessandro Mion scored the final two goals for Tech in the second half as Delaware struggled with 10 men thanks to a red card. The Blue Hens didn’t have a single shot on goal after halftime. Som Essome and Merlin Baus also scored for the Hokies. It was Baus’ team-high fourth goal of the season.
Baus is currently T-10th in the country in points per game at 2.0 and T-8th in assists per game at 0.8. He is 47th in goals per game with 0.67. The Hokies are 15th in the country in scoring offense at 2.14 goals per game and total goals with 15. They also rank sixth in the nation in shots on goal per game at 7.57.
The ACC has five teams in NSCAA Top 25 Poll and three in the top six. Four other teams are currently receiving votes. Every ACC team is at least two games above .500 and the conference went 11-0 this week in nonconference matchups.
Opponent History...
The two programs will be meeting for the 13th time in history on Friday night. Every game in the series has been decided by two goals or less. The Eagles hold a 9-1-2 advantage over the Hokies in the series. The teams did not play in 2014 but all meetings have occured since 2001. The Hokies drew in 2012, 2005 and won their only time against the Eagles in double overtime in 2003, 2-1.
About Boston College...
Boston College is coming off a 3-1 victory over Connecticut on Tuesday night. The Eagles have won two straight games with their other victory coming over ACC foe Pittsburgh. It will be just the third road game for Boston College as five of their first seven games were at home. The Eagles have the most freshmen out of any team in the ACC this year with 12.
Freshman Trevor Davock is the leading scorer for the Eagles with four goals. He has scored the second-most game-winning goals this season in the country with three. The team is last in shots per game (11.86) in the ACC but rank fifth in goals per game (2.0) and sixth in assists per game (1.86).
Zieko Lewis and Simon Enstrom each have three goals. Lewis also has three assists and Enstrom has two. Cedric Saladin has started six of the seven games for Boston College in goal. He has a 4-2-0 overall record and a .696 save percentage. He is allowing 1.13 goals against and has made 16 saves total on the year.
