Hokies head to Chapel Hill for crucial conference match against No. 17 UNC
Tech looks to get back on track in ACC play

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team looks to get back on track when the Hokies travel Chapel Hill to take on No. 17 UNC on Friday night.

The Tar Heels come into the match with a 7-4 (2-2 ACC) record with the squad’s most recent result being a 3-0 victory over Campbell University this past Tuesday. UNC’s most impressive wins were over then-No. 7 California and then-No. 25 Old Dominion.

Andy Craven leads the Tar Heels in points this season with 11 on the strength of five goals and one assist. Rob Lovejoy and Tyler Engel are not far behind with nine and eight points, respectively. Eight other Tar Heel players have earned at least two points or higher so far this season.

Goalkeeper Brendan Moore has played every minute in goal for the Tar Heels thus far and has amassed a 1.08 goals against average, 28 total saves and a .700 save percentage. Moore has also posted five shutouts this season.

Sophomore Som Essome leads the Hokies with 11 points on the strength of three goals and five assists. Freshman Ricardo John is right behind Essome with nine points (four goals, one assist), while freshman Merlin Baus has eight points (three goals, two assists).

Freshman goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard has seen most of the play of late and comes into the match with a 1.09 goals against average, 36 total saves and a .800 save percentage.

Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Both live stats and a live stream via ESPN3 will be available.
