BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech sophomore Som Essome earned even more national recognition for his play last week being named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week as announced by Top Drawer Soccer on Tuesday

Essome helped lead the Hokies to a 2-0 victory over Wake Forest last Friday evening. Previously, the Hokies had never beaten Wake Forest since joining the ACC and it was the Hokies’ first win over the Demon Deacons since 1997.

The sophomore from Essen, Germany slipped a ball through to teammate Ricardo John who put the Hokies up 1-0. A spectacular individual play from Essome led to the Hokies’ second goal when he powered through a pair of defenders and passed the ball across the face of the goal to a sprinting Niels Kirch to put Tech up 2-0.

Essome has already lived up to the recognition as he added another assist to his tally yesterday evening in the Hokies' victory over George Washington.

Tech and Essome are back in action on Friday when the Hokies travel to NC State.
