BLACKSBURG, Va. – Matt Gow, a former assistant at MidAmerica Nazarene University, has been added to the Virginia Tech men’s soccer coaching staff as announced by head coach Mike Brizendine. Gow will serve as the goalkeeper coach.

"I first want to thank head coach Mike Brizendine and coaches Patrick McSorley and Jeff Kinney for giving me the opportunity to join the Virginia Tech coaching staff. I am extremely excited to be coaching along side these three guys and to coach in what many consider to be the best soccer conference in the nation,” said Gow. “I am look forward to seeing where this team is headed and can not wait to be apart of the big things that are about to happen here at Virginia Tech with this program."

Prior to coming to Tech, Gow spent two seasons as an assistant coach at MidAmerica Nazarene University, one of the nation’s top NAIA programs. While at MNU, Gow was responsible for all goalkeeper training. In addition to training the goalkeepers, other responsibilities included recruiting both internationally and domestically and preparing and executing practice and game plans.

At MNU, Gow helped his team to both a national semifinal and national quarterfinal appearance, coaching 15 all-conference selections, four All-Region selections and four All-America selections. In addition, the starting goalkeeper at MNU was able to achieve two All-America selections under the direction and instruction of Gow.

While coaching at MNU, Gow was one of the founding coaches of Toca Futbol Club, a faith-based soccer club located in the Kansas City metro area. As the Director of Goalkeeping, Gow also coached multiple teams ranging in ages eight to 18.

Prior to coaching at MidAmerica Nazarene and Toca FC, Gow played for the Southern California Seahorses, a member of the Premier Developmental League.

Gow was also a standout at MNU as an undergrad and was a four-year starter and two-year team captain. Gow helped lead his team to an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament in 2007 and a Conference Championship in 2008.

“We are very excited to have Matt join our coaching staff,” explained head coach Mike Brizendine. “He is a great person with a tremendous work ethic and is truly dedicated to the development of our players. Not only was he a tremendous goalkeeper in his own right, but he has proven himself as a coach as well. Our former goalkeeping coach Chris Rich was able to do tremendous things for our program and I have no doubt Matt will continue that tradition.”

A native of Lebanon, Missouri, Gow received his bachelor’s degree in business marketing in 2011 and his master’s degree in organizational leadership in 2014.

In addition to coaching at Virginia Tech, Gow also serves the Director of Operations and Youth Development for the New River United Soccer Association.
