Renfro selected to participate in 2014 MLS Combine
Goalkeeper is second-ever Hokie to earn invite

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro has been included among the nation’s elite college seniors invited to compete in the 2014 adidas MLS Combine, as announced by Major League Soccer yesterday. The annual player combine will be held from January 10-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“We are so very proud of Kyle and all he has been able to accomplish this year. He has proven day in and day out that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the nation and now he has the opportunity to show what he can do in the professional ranks,” said head coach Mike Brizendine.

Renfro has started and played in 63 matches since arriving at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2010. He accrued 14 shutouts in his career and boasted a .782 save percentage over four years of play. The Forest, Va. native has led the ACC in saves the past three seasons and was named a First Team Scholar All-America selection, a First Team All-State selection, a First Team All-ACC selection and a Second Team All-Region selection for his performance during the 2013 campaign.

All participants were selected by a committee consisting of NCAA Division I coaches and MLS representatives. They will be joined at the adidas MLS Player Combine by other seniors, including from lower NCAA divisions, underclassmen who sign Generation adidas contracts and other international invitees.

All players invited to the combine are eligible to be selected in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
