Tech travels to Davidson for final nonconference match
Hokies look for fifth win of the season

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team looks to cap off their nonconference schedule with a positive result at Davidson on Tuesday night.

The Hokies and Davidson have met a total of five times in the two schools’ histories with Tech leading the all-time series 3-2. The last time the two squads met was in 2010. That match saw the Hokies fall 1-0 off of a goal by the Wildcats in the 44th minute.

The Hokies are coming off of a 3-2 loss at NC State. In that match, senior Robert Alberti scored twice in the last 17 minutes to fuel the Hokies’ comeback effort that fell just short.

Alberti leads the team in points with 14 on the strength of six goals and two assists so far this season. Junior André Thomas is second in points for Tech with six (two goals, two assists).

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro has continued to be a stalwart in goal for the Hokies. Renfro currently ranks second in the ACC in saves (66) and saves per game (4.71) and third in the ACC in save percentage (.805).

Davidson has played three ACC teams (Duke, NC State and Wake Forest) already this year and has yet to win a match against an ACC squad. When playing an ACC opponent this year, Davidson has been outscored 9-2.

For Davidson, sophomore Valeriy Sviderskiy leads the way with six goals. Freshman Max Pragnell has scored two goals this year and has recorded six assists for the Wildcats. Seven other players have scored goals for the Wildcats this year.

Three goalkeepers have seen time for Davidson this year with sophomore Matt Pacifici receiving most of the minutes in goal. Pacifici has recorded 64 saves this season and boasts a .753 save percentage. The sophomore also comes into the match with a 1.58 goals against average.

Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available.

The Hokies' match at Boston College on Sunday afternoon has been changed from 3:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. as announced Monday afternoon.
