BLACKSBURG, Va. – After a stellar performance in the net for the Hokies against No. 19 Virginia, senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week.
Renfro continued an already phenomenal season recording 10 saves, a tie for his career high, against the Cavaliers. The highlight of the game came in overtime when Renfro stopped a penalty kick. The stopped spot kick was the second of the season for the senior. The Forest, Va. native made an additional three saves in overtime to secure the 1-1 tie for Tech.
Renfro sits third in the Virginia Tech record books in career shutouts with 13 and is well on his way to cracking the top five in career saves. He has currently amassed an impressive 280 saves during his tenure at Tech, and is only nine saves away from the fifth spot in the record books.
Renfro and the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team returns to action tonight when they take on the VMI Keydets at 7 p.m.
