BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will play host to No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday night at Thompson Field in an ACC battle.
The Hokies (3-3-4, 1-1-4 ACC) currently sit in seventh place in the ACC standings while the Fighting Irish (6-0-4, 3-0-3 ACC) are in third place in the league.
Tech is coming off of a 0-0 draw with Pitt while Notre Dame most recently tied No. 5 Maryland 1-1. Vince Cicciarelli scored Notre Dame’s only goal in that match.
Tech’s senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro currently boasts a .807 save percentage and four shutouts this season. Renfro has made 46 saves already this year and ranks third in the ACC in that category. Renfro ranks second in the ACC in saves per game with 4.60.
Notre Dame comes into the match s one of four teams in NCAA Division I without a loss this season. The Fighting Irish are led by senior Harrison Shipp who has recorded 15 points this season on the strength of five goals and five assists. Senior Leon Brown is second on the team with goals with four.
Notre Dame’s goalkeeper Patrick Wall has played every minute for the Fighting Irish this season. Wall currently boasts an impressive 0.55 goals against average and a .838 save percentage.
Friday’s match will also serve as a book drive. Fans are encouraged to bring used books to donate to the local schools. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted live on ESPN3 and live stats will also be available.
