BLACKSBURG, Va – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will begin a four-game homestand starting with a talented High Point squad on Tuesday evening at Thompson Field.

The Hokies are coming off of a 1-1 tie in ACC play at Duke. In a very heated contest that produced 41 fouls, six yellow cards and one red card between the two teams, the Hokies were able to earn a tie after going down a goal early on in the match.

In the fourth minute, Duke got on the board after a Blue Devil tapped in a free kick service. Tech rallied back in the 88th minute thanks to senior Robert Alberti. Sophomore Bradley Vorv hit a long ball to junior Drew Ranahan who headed the ball to a streaking Alberti. The senior calmly finished the shot and forced the game into overtime.

The Panthers come into the match with a 2-3 record. High Point has earned wins against Navy and then-No. 15 UNC Greensboro. Junior forward Mamadee Nyepon ranks fifth in the nation in goals scored with five, while sophomore teammate Austin Yearwood ranks second in the nation in assists with four.

Though the Panthers’ offense is a potent one, their defense has allowed 13 goals in five games including two games where the opponent scored five goals against the High Point defense.
