BLACKSBURG, Va. – Based on their performances last season and their expected performances this season, David Clemens and Kyle Renfro have been named to the College Sports Madness 2013 Preseason ACC All-Conference Team.
“These two young men have earned this recognition,” said Brizendine. “For several years now, not only have David and Kyle been leaders on the field but they have been leaders off as well. When we reflect on these awards in three or four months, I have no doubt that both David and Kyle will have proven why they were selected.”
CollegeSportsMadness.com, a site dedicated to covering college athletics, named Clemens and Renfro to the second team after a 2012 season that saw the pair lead the Hokies to their best season since 2007.
Clemens had many top-notch performances in 2012 including a hat trick against VMI. At the conclusion of the season, the Ballston Lake, N.Y. native led the Hokies offensively, scoring an impressive 10 goals on the year and adding two assists.
Renfro had an equally impressive 2012 campaign, which saw him finish atop the ACC standings in total saves and saves per game. The Forest, Va. native was also ranked third in the ACC in save percentage with a .760 mark.
Based on their performances last season and their leadership on and off of the field, both Clemens and Renfro were named captains for the 2013 season.
Clemens, Renfro and the Hokies return to action on Aug. 24 when the team travels to Radford, Va. to take on the Radford Highlanders in their final exhibition before their regular season opener on Aug. 30 versus Binghamton at the JMU Tournament.
