Men's soccer announces 2013 schedule
Hokies to host 11 matches next fall

BLACKSBURG, Va. – With the addition of three new schools to the Atlantic Coast Conference for next fall, the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will welcome an even tougher schedule for the 2013 season as they will face eight NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.

Of the eight tournament teams, the Hokies will host six at Thompson Field, including the tournament’s overall No. 1 seed Notre Dame on Oct. 11. Others include Maryland, North Carolina, Syracuse, VCU and Virginia.

Tech will open its season with a trio of in-state foes within the first of the season, hosting Liberty in the opener on Aug. 17. The Hokies will see their first top 25 of the season on Aug. 21 as they renew their rivalry with VCU, before heading to Radford on Aug 24.

After playing in Harrisonburg, Va., at James Madison’s annual tournament, Tech will face Syracuse, one of the conference’s newest members, in the ACC opener on Sept. 1.

After trip to Duke on Sept. 13, the Hokies will host High Point, which earned its first top 25 ranking last year, on Sept. 17, before welcoming perennial power North Carolina to Thompson Field three days later.

Early October will see the Hokies play three ACC opponents in a single week with trips to Wake Forest on Oct. 4 and Pittsburgh on Oct. 8. The grueling week will conclude as Tech welcomes Notre Dame on the Oct. 11.

On Oct. 15, the Hokies will renew their longstanding rivalry with Virginia in Blacksburg.

After a late season trip to Boston College in November, the Hokies will end the season at home with 2012 ACC champion, Maryland, at home.
