BLACKSBURG – The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars won this year’s Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational after finishing the tournament 2-0-0. With the second Cougar goal against host Virginia Tech on Friday night and the game-winner against No. 19 James Madison this afternoon, Jared Tejada was named the tournament MVP. The senior only played a total of 32 minutes in two games, but made every minute count for the Cougars.
Friday night saw Richmond upset James Madison 1-0 on a Timmy Albright goal in the eighth minute, before SIUE defeated the host Hokies 3-1.
The Cougars continued its run on Sunday by defeating JMU 1-0, behind Tejada’s goal in the 35th min, while Virginia Tech knocked off Richmond 1-0 on a goal by David Clemens in the 21st minute.
