GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Renfro (Forest, Va.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. It is the first time in his career that Renfro has earned the weekly honor from the conference. He shares the award with Maryland’s Patrick Mullins.
Renfro, who faced 22 shots in a 102-minute, 31-second stint against then-No. 1 ranked North Carolina on Saturday, posted a career-high nine saves and notched his second career shutout as Tech defeated the Tar Heels, 1-0 in double overtime.
He helped the Hokies earn their first win over UNC since 2007 and their first win over a number-one ranked team since 2004, when the Hokies topped Duke, 1-0, in Durham, N.C. Renfro now has 20 saves and a 0.95 goals-against average so far this season.
Renfro and the rest of the Hokies return to action on Tuesday night (Sept. 13), as they wrap up a five-game homestand to begin the season against Longwood at 7 p.m. The game will be live streamed online on hokiesports.com.
