Hokies finish 14th at 3M Augusta Invitational

Final Results
The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a three round total of 11-over 875 and finished in 14th place at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Sunday. The two-day event was played at the par 72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
Tech shot a 300 in the Saturday morning round, but improved to a 2-under 286 in the afternoon round. The Hokies shot a 1-over 289 in Sunday’s final round.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for sixth individually at 5-under 211. He finished six strokes behind medalist Dylan Meyer of Illinois. Lawrence shot 70 in the second round and followed that with a 6-under 66 on Sunday, tying his low collegiate round. He finished the tournament with an eagle 3 on the par 5, 540-yard ninth hole.
Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 43rd at 221 and Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, tied for 51st place at 223. Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, was 60th at 225 and Joey Jordan, a junior from Richmond, Virginia, was 70th at 232. Burgess shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday, with three birdies and 15 pars.
Illinois won the team title at 25-under 839, 15 strokes ahead of Houston and Wake Forest. USC Aiken and Kennesaw State tied for fourth at 858, Tennessee was sixth at 860, South Carolina was seventh at 862, Georgia State was eighth at 868, UCF was ninth at 869 and New Mexico was 10th at 870. UCLA was 11th at 871, host Augusta was 12th at 872 and Marquette was 13th at 874, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Navy was 15th at 902.
The Hokies return to action April 13-15, as they compete in the Stitch Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament will be played at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina.
