Men's Golf set for Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

The Virginia Tech men’s golf team will travel to eastern Tennessee to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The three-day event will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

The event has welcomed a strong field to Jonesborough for 20 years now. This year’s field has four top 50 teams from the current Golfweek.com rankings, led by No. 5 Missouri and No. 11 Tennessee. The field also includes the Hokies and defending champion and ACC foe, Virginia. In addition, Kansas State, Kent State, fellow ACC foe Louisville, Coastal Carolina, ETSU, East Carolina, Furman, Penn State, UNCW, VCU and Villanova join the Hokies in Jonesborough.

Mark Lawrence Jr., will lead off for the Hokies. The junior from Richmond, Virginia finished in a tie for 12th place at last week’s Tar Heel Intercollegiate. On the final day, Lawrence tied his collegiate low and season-best for the Hokies of 6-under 66. He leads the Hokies in scoring average and Crunch Time average.

Playing the two spot for the Hokies will be Connor Burgess. The freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 23rd place at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, following his second place finish at VCU in mid-September.

Sarit Suwannarut, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, will play in the third spot for the Hokies. Suwannarut placed 33rd last week at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. Previously, he tied for 12th at the Janney Invitational earlier this fall.

Blake Fiest continues the line-up in the fourth spot. The junior from Huntersville, North Carolina tied for 33rd last week at the Tar Heel intercollegiate. He is second on the team in stroke average and Crunch Time average.

Slade Pickering rounds up the line-up for the Hokies. The freshman from North West, South Africa returns to the starting five this week. He has competed in all three tournaments so far for the Hokies.

Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia will play as an Individual at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. He has played in each of the last two events, earning a start and a solid 33rd place finish last week at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

The tournament is a three-day, 54-hole event. Each round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with teams going off from tee No. 1 on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday teams will start from tee No. 1 and No. 10. Live Stats will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
