Match Play Bracket

Virginia Tech golfer Mark Lawrence Jr. lost to Doc Redman, 1 down at the 2017 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday, falling in the semifinals. The weeklong event is being played at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Lawrence, a rising junior from Richmond, Virginia, won the first hole in his semifinal match and was All Square at the turn. On the back nine, Redman twice took a 2 up lead, but Lawrence ran in a long eagle putt on the par-5 17th hole to square the match. Lawrence missed a par putt to tie on the 18th hole and Redman, of Raleigh, North Carolina and Clemson, won the hole and the match to advance to Sunday’s 36 hole final.

Lawrence’s appearance in the semifinals marks the deepest run into a U.S. Amateur ever for a Virginia Tech golfer.
